Stash Storage. I have been ogling and coveting everyones stash storage solutions. I came across this cabinet and am very tempted to buy it. I am actually wanting two. Tell me what you think. The frame is composite with oak veneer. The doors are solid oak. It is 48" x 26" by 9.25". 5 shelves, only 1 of which is not adjustable.
Please comment!
The unit looks really nice and the price isn't bad, although, I do not think it would be deep enough. My shelves are about 12 inches deep and they work perfect for the way I store my fabric. Think about how you are going to fold the fabric. I use the method found in the "Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space" by Hallock. This is a great book, I suggest looking at it!

BTW, this is my first Blog : )
Oh Swoozey I love that cabinet....nice and pretty yet very functional! I want some for me...LOL...But of course I have no room...LOL
ReplyDeleteBTW I posted a pic of the new car on my blog a few minutes ago :)
I think that's a great cabinet. You can see whats in side without opening the doors and as long as it has enough shelves (or you can put in more) that is a great idea. And the price is right!

That looks like a great find. Are the shelves the right depth for you? Do you have containers you want to put in there or are the shelves the right depth for your folding method? If so, congratulations!!!

The price is sure reasonable and it is a beautiful cabinet. I would be happier if it was at least 60 inches tall and maybe a little deeper. Depends on how you fold your fabric.
ReplyDeleteIf you think the shelves will be wide enough I say,.......what are you waiting for?
ReplyDeleteGo for it! :-)
My first thought at seeing the cabinet is that it's beautiful, but what will you lay on the wood to protect your fabrics? Will the cabinet be in a room with lots of sunlight? These are things you need to answer for yourself.

I think it's way too small - you'll outgrow it too soon. It's only 4 feet high and a little over 2 feet wide. Unless your stash is very small, it won't work for very long. It is beautiful, though! And you can always replace the composite shelves with real wood to make them stronger. It's the size that worries me.
ReplyDeleteThe cabinet is very pretty! If you are a neat-nick and love to look at your fabrics, the glass fronts are perfect; however, if you are not a person who stays on top of tidying up your fabric stacks, it may become unsightly adn be more of a chore, in which case, solid front doors might be better. Also consider where sunlight would be coming from as well, as it can fade your fabrics on the edges that are showing. If you go with the wood cabinet, you should line the shelves with acid-free paper or matboard, so that your fabrics don't come into direct contact with the wood itself, as it could harm your fabric as well.
ReplyDeleteHey Swooze. I agree with the previous comments, although it is gorgeous, it looks too small and certainly for me it would be too messy to have my stash always on show because life is too short to keep it all beautifully folded. And I love your Seven Sisters top but sorry, your pink is much more gorgeous than my pink - my pink is a pale bland fabric that likely had a previous life as a bed sheet.

Well, I have to weigh in with my 2c... I like that your stash would be visible, it will keep you honest about organizing it. (I keep mine in clear bins in the closet and being able to see inside make searching so much easier) It is big enough to keep a really nice collection of fabric, but small enough that you won't be tempted to have a super large stash (as long as this is your only cabinet) The advise about light is a good one, you don't want faded folds. The price is great, don't get hit on shipping costs and club membership.
ReplyDeleteI am sure we are all dying to know what you decide! Good luck!
I think it's really pretty, and that is important too! I keep my stash folded pretty neatly but I wish my cabinets were see through. I have those plastic ones from Target. Nice and functionaly but not beautiful by any means.
ReplyDeleteI love it - I really like having the color of the fabrics show. When I want a blue, for example, I grab the stack, lay them out, take what I want, then put it back. Keeping the stacks neat is not a problem for me - and I like to gaze at my organized stash....
ReplyDeleteOooooooo...that is a beautiful cabinet!
ReplyDeleteLots of pros and cons hit on in previous comments...are you thoroughly confused now as to whether or not you get it?

Very nice cabinet! I like the glass front, so you can admire the softies from across the room. I read something recently, that CD cabinets make great storage for fat quarters!
ReplyDeleteSoooo,,, did you buy it????
