What is the predominant color?
Two colors speak to me. DH and DD came up with a third. I plan to add a border to make one of the colors in this quilt pop. What would you choose?

  1. I can't help you too much here as borders are what I do worse!!!!!I suppose it makes a difference who is going to use this. If a man, I wouldn't pull out the pink!!! Looks good!

  3. I think the red might be the one I'd pick.. or perhaps the aqua? I usually lay the top on the fabrics I am considering, take a picture and look at it there. It seems that things show up better somehow in a picture. Whatever you pick will be what is right for you!

  4. I do the same as Edna. In the pic, the red seems to be standing out the most to me.

  5. Even though red is my favorite color, I see yellow or tan.

  6. I'd probably try a red first. Then maybe a blue?

  7. Switch the bottom two blocks.

  8. Well, for the border I would use that polka dot fabric you used in the the two middle blocks. And for a zinger, bind it in the black print that forms the pinewheels in the corners. Nice job on the blocks.

  9. I agree, switch the bottom 2 blocks.

Although I like the red, there seems to be a lot of it already. I think maybe a small border of tan and then either pink or Green. Might make them Pop!

  10. I agree with Edna. Audition some fabrics and taking photos. You somehow see things more clearly in a photo...you even catch some errors in photos also... hopefully before a quilt is all sewn together...
But if I had to suggest I would say maybe a blue, or burgandy.

  11. Red, blue and yellow would be my choices...maybe even a bit scrappy, rather than one then the next...That's an easy way out of making one choice.

  13. I vote for the yellow!! The binding could be the turquoise in the upper right hand corner!! Gonna be a great quilt, kiddo.

  14. I am liking the red, yellow and turqoise. Can you find a print of red with yellow in it, then add a turquoise binding (or some other combination) of the colours...

P.S. I think we need a UFO swap, where we get to keep what we make with the other person's UFO!!!

  15. Well you may have already decided on the borders here but I'd do a skinny red inner border and then a blue outer one. For me, blue just pulls scrap quilts together and the red gives a bit of pop.

  16. I don't really care what color the blocks are. You can change the whole color of the quilt using the border.

If it were MY quilt, I'd use two borders. I'd put on a narrow brown border, maybe 1.5" or 2" wide and then a 6" or 8" wide pink border. Then I'd fuse the outer border with vines and flowers in reds, yellows and blues.

Course, that is all assuming that I was actually doing something with my orphan blocks. You are far more ambitious than I am!
