Tumbler Quilt Topped

There was an impromptu sew-in at Wattafind yesterday in Mesquite.  I had to add borders to a quilt and love going to these events for this activity because I can spread out on their tables rather than crawling on the floor or working on my bed.

I am always overconfident in what I can accomplish in these short periods of time.  I took three items to work on but my tumbler quilt was my priority.  How long do you think it takes to add two simple borders to a small quilt?  I know about when I got to the store and when I left.  I was there around 3.5 hours.  There was a little time visiting but not that much.  So it took at least three hours.  All my strips were precut too.  Wow!

Well here it is!

I used fabric samples my mother had bought in a garage sale for the colored pieces.  The white or neutrals were all from my scrap bag.  The borders were cut from yardage in my stash.  I bought this fabric last year or earlier this year on a very good sale.  The pieces were all cut on my AccuQuilt GO Cutter.  I enjoyed making this quilt and plan to make another tumbler quilt soon.

Hugs!

  1. Congrats on this beautiful finish. The borders are the perfect colour to regroup everything together. Great job. ;^)

  2. Your quilt turned out great! The borders look wonderful. You took your time and it shows! I love tumbler quilts, but I have only made one and it was a whopper! It was my millennium quilt. I had 2000 tumblers with no two the same fabric. There was fabric from each decade of the 20th century represented in it too. I had a plastic template that I used to cut the pieces. The rows were a bit to tall so I ended up trimming them down a bit otherwise the quilt would have been even bigger so therefore I did not have any borders. It turned out 8' x 10' - meaning the rows were 8' wide with 50 pieces in a row. I finished it in June 2010 - yes a few years after the millennium had passed but I stuck with it and finished it! I am not sure I will ever make another one!

  4. Love it! Really cute. I like traditional quilts. I've looked at die cutters but the dies are really expensive over here so I think you would have to want to make the same quilt over and over again to make it worthwhile, say for an Etsy business.

  5. It might take longer than you think but you do have to be sociable - after all that is the fun bit! Well done on getting to this stage! Thanks for linking up to #scraptastictuesday

  9. Great finish. Sometimes I think it takes just as long to stitch borders on as it does to make the quilt...laugh out loud!
