OMG Completion

My goal for April OMG was to quilt my Happy Blocks quilt for Jason. I pulled it off the machine this a.m. and have the next quilt laded and ready to go.

I might put a little more thread in that heart. Trying to think how to improve upon it. Open to suggestions.

This will land on the binding pile until I get through the quilting marathon.

Did you meet your goal for April? Are you going to play along in May? Linking up with Elm Street Quilts.

Incredible Texture

When I loaded this quilt I had intended to quilt it diagonally. I chickened out and decided to go with an “easier” plan. I quilted it on the diagonal into the center then back out.

I think sticking with my original plan would have been easier. But it’s done. I chose to free hand the lines to get that organic look. As I quilted I vaccilated between liking and hating it. But done as it is I love it!

What do you think? I can’t wait to run it through the wash to see how it feels. This is the heaviest quilting I have done to date. On to the next one!

Busy Weekend

Friday night I sewed with the church ladies. I pressed a top that is ready for quilting. The replacement quilt.

Afterwards I made a Lonestar 15” block for a class I’m taking.

It took me 6 hours. I had estimated it would take 3 hours at most. Wow!

Saturday I attended 3 classes/clubs back to back. My Handiquilter ruler class. She demo’ed couching feet. They’re on my wish list. Then I had my mystery class. Second step in a row that has been assembly of previously sewn units. Here is our personal design wall.

Then I had my Saturday Sampler where the Lonestar was due. Hexagons next.

No more sewing for the rest of the day. I took a very long nap and then watched tv.

Sunday I assembled units for the mystery. I put the Martha Washington stars together. I started sewing HSTs together to form pinwheels. 216 HSTs to 54 pinwheels. That’s going to take awhile!

Later in the day and today I continued quilting on my double four patch. I am getting bored with it!

Loving that texture though. I’m trying different things I’ve seen. Learning what I like and don’t like.

Quilting Double Four Patch

i am quilting this right now.

I had this “great” idea. I would quilt it on the diagonal. I planned to make it wonky. After it was loaded and I thought that through a little more I decided to quilt more like Vs all meeting in the center.

I am not quite halfway. It’s easier but I wish I had used my ruler to guide my wonky lines a bit more. I wish I hadn’t quilted quite as many lines. But it is fine. I will finish it as is.

Not sure you can see the quilting here. I hope to finish tomorrow.

Marileah’s Love Quilt

The blocks were made by a group of ladies fron the church I sew at and the top assembled by Sheila. Sheila asked me to quilt it and help get it finished up. We delivered it together!

Marileah was very happy! This is #14 on my 2Q FAL list.

How are you doing on your goals??

Pat’s Harley T-shirt Quilt

My first 2Q finish for the Finish Along. This was #6 on my list.

I quilted, bound, washed, thread trimmed and delivered this Friday.

I think he was happy. What do you think? We went out to dinner with him and his wife that night. While we were waiting for him to get home I managed to get this top together.

There was another row of 1.5” blocks to be added to each end and that was accomplished last night. Ready for quilting!

2Q FAL Goal Setting

My focused, thoughtful list for 1Q was a good idea for me. While I only finished one item I did make progress on many others. I got them out and made decisions on backs and thread colors and quilting designs. I’m planning on finishing a lot more this quarter. Here we go!

1) remake Carleen’s Matchstick Marimba. First one was misdelivered and they deny having it.

2) tumbler quilt

3) pink and green strip stacks #2

4) Jasons Happy Blocks

5) Ray’s horse quilt

6) Pat’s Harley quilt

7) CBs Hells Angel quilt
8) Renee’s Yellow quilt
9) Renee’s Navy Quilt
10) Pieced together contest quilt
11) Double Four patch quilt

12) green four patch on point
13).Poppy BQ quilt

14) Marileah’s Love quilt

15) Nancies Peach Floral
16) Vikki’s baby quilt
17) Dr Liang pincushion
18) Postcards for Nancie and Meloney
19-20) Charity quilts I have hiding here

Mostly quilting but #7 is a new start and #8 needs repair. #1 is in the piecing phase too.

Wish me luck! I’d really like to get the first dozen done done in this quarter. I’m linking up with Leanne at She Can Quilt for 2Q Finish-a-long.

Happy quilting!

It’s a Whopper

I loaded this quilt last Sunday. The biggest one I’ve done on my Avante. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

I started quilting a little on Tuesday.

My friend has been working on this for awhile so I asked her if I could finish it for her. Her husbands birthday party was today and his birthday is Tuesday. I told her I was aiming for Tuesday.

Saturday at around 9 p.m. I started quilting. I worked until I couldn’t thread the needle. That was my sign to go to bed around midnight. I got up this morning and got busy at 9:30 am and worked up until 2 pm and left for his party.

I almost made it. 1.5 rows to go. As soon as I got home I finished it up. I will trim and bind it tomorrow.

I’m really getting the hang of getting them quilted! It makes me thrilled.

April OMG

I am stickng with my plan to use one of my 12 quilts I’d like to finish this year as my One Monthly Goal. This quilt will be gifted to my boyfriend’s nephew.

When Ray’s dad was in the hospital in 2015 we made the long drive to Michigan in hopes that we would get to see his dad one more time. I had had the good fortune to have met Paul on several occasions. We even became phone friends and spoke to one another almost weekly. Up until that time I had mainly met Ray’s siblings. I met a few nieces that happened to be at his sisters house when we were there previously.

We arrived at the hospital and spoke with his Dad and visited with his sister. Ray and I were exhausted from the drive so they made up the couches in his Dads room for us to get much needed sleep. The next day more family began trickling in. One of his nephews really stood out to me. Jason. He treated me like everyone else making sure to include me in conversation. It didn’t matter to him that he didn’t know me. He treated me with the utmost respect. He stood watch at his grandfathers side. When other family members needed to leave to get rest or go home for whatever reason Jason stayed there. He never left. He has a caretakers heart. He was the one with his grandfather when he passed. I was very impressed with this young man.

While in Michigan I asked if I could get a few of Paul’s shirts. I was going to make quilts forom them and give one to Ray’s sister. She gave me what she had and mentioned that they held bad memories due to Pauls previous living arrangement. That broke my heart a little knowing that she may appreciate the gift of a quilt but the items used to represent him would not. I talked to Ray about it. I mentioned Jason and that I’d like to make the quilt for him. He loved the idea.

My goal is to quilt it by the end of the month. When I post my finish I wll tell you more.

Are you participating in OMG? It’s fun! I hope you will.
