Cream and Sugar Block of the Month
So I did a thing. Last year year a good friend of mine was arranging to teach a block of the month. She got as far as choosing the pattern and the fabrics and then she accepted a job far, far away. She knew I wanted to teach classes one day and asked if I wanted to take over.
The class was offered in two different color ways. One modern or brights and the other traditional or civil war. I thought she had a tentative plan for which fabrics for which blocks thus creating an overall vision. When I asked her for her plan she said I should create my own.
I had twenty in two separate classes. At each meeting I taught different techniques to the class and showed my sample block. I talked about construction tips and tricks. People brought their completed blocks and were given the next months fabrics. If they hadn’t completed their blocks they pay a small fee for the kit.
When the pandemic hit I helped the shop with curbside pickup of the blocks. I think we skipped a month. It was nice seeing everyone in their car for a private show and tell of their blocks and a quick exchange of tips. I’ve lost three people due to either being discouraged at falling behind or becoming impatient with having to wait month after month. Some others have fallen behind but are sticking with it. I’m going to suggest a class to allow people to come and sew and catchup.
I have all the blocks made now. I’ve started putting the top together and now have to wait for the rest of the blocks to be handed out to finish assembling it.
I’ve been updating my friend as I go. I think she’s pleased with the direction I’ve taken.

Modern BOM
At the next class I continued to look at those blocks and an idea popped into my head. I was going to put HSTs all around the blocks to form a stripe. When I did my bad quilt math it seemed like it was going to be too large so I altered my idea a little and here is what I came up with.
Do you like BOM programs?

One day Quilts
This is Shakespeare in the Park. I believe it's a Judy Martin design. There was a lot of talk about this quilt on my Stashbuster group. I bought the book but did not make the quilt at the time. My son surprised me when he said he'd like a purple quilt. I felt it needed a little zing so I added the green. I need to quilt it now.
This is Bonnie Hunters Double Delight. It was a mystery quilt she offered many years ago. It’s still free on her website. I planned to do it in her colors but had a hard time finding the pinks locally in civil wars. I did find the purples though. I began buying and while on a Patchwork Express trip I found a pink to use just in a different place. This too needs quilting.
I can sort of tick these off the list. I need to choose the next someday Quilts now!
Are you working on your bucket list?

While I Was Away
I've been doing a lot of sewing versus talking about sewing. I haven't been blogging nor reading many blogs but I do read one of my favorite yahoo, now io, groups. I've been teaching quilting classes a little and working to setup more classes to teach.
I've had another vacation. It even included visits to high altitude although this time I was equipped to handle it with knowledge and appropriate supplies. It was good to conquer that fear. It healed me more than I could have imagined or realized that I needed. Ray and I talked over the bad trip and my feelings over things. It helped to air that all out.
Sadly life brings other realities with it. We lost Duke late last year. He was put to sleep the day after his 10th birthday. His heart and spirit were strong but sadly his body was not. I've helped many a dog over the Rainbow Bridge but this one was particularly painful. He left a giant hole in our hearts and lives.
Then 2 days after I brought Ray home from the hospital and one of the worst experiences of my life we lost Augie. He was not doing well and I was running back and forth to the hospital. I knew he didn’t feel well although he acted a little better. I told him I was taking him to the vet the next day. He died some time in the night. He was 13 so more than likely if we had made it to the vet I would have had to euthanize him. No good answer in any of it.
So here I am. I’m going to try to make it a habit of visiting with you all again and share what I’m up to as well.
Thanks for checking in on me.

March OMG
I have been away from the blog for a bit. I have been feeling overwhelmed with work. We are having to learn a new software tool. It’s been a huge uphill struggle. This past week I had a breakthrough in my understanding and use of this tool. I’m no expert but I am able to independently get things done. This gives me such relief and makes me happy.
So in the evenings reading blogs, much less writing blog posts, was far from my mind. I read emails and sewed. That was about it. I got lots of sewing done. I’ll share some of these things in the coming days and weeks.
Tomorrow I am heading to the Dallas Quilt Show. I’m not really in the market for anything specific. I’m going to spend time there with a new friend. She has extra activities planned before and after the show. It should be interesting.
Did you miss me? I look forward to catching up with you over the coming days.
