Community Kitty

There are two cats hanging out near my apartment. They are not skinny by any means but do not seem to belong to anyone as they are outside at all hours. Should I put out cat food? Should I put out water? I know some of the neighbors are putting scraps out for them.

Thoughts?

It's good to know you are settling in! I would not feed the kittys...water maybe but no food. Can you get close to them? If they are "tame" then they belonged to someone at one point i'd bet. Too bad they did not keep them! Its always sad to see abandoned kittys/dogs/any animal.

Rule number one , dont feed the strays. It sounds harsh but I ended up with kittens crawling up my window screens at 2 am because the neighbors feed them. I had to be the cruel one to call animal control. After the fact I learned the kittens belonged to one of the neighbors. Bad neighbor for not taking better care of those babies.

Okay, I'm a sucker for animals so I say give them water, see what happens. If they seem tame my money is that someone moved and left them to fend for themselves..if they're tame call animal control maybe someone will adopt them and give them a good loving home, or you can feed them, name them and call them yours.

Swooze, I think you got yourself a new pet! go to the store & get kitty litter & food. ps: I never lived alone either. This past deer hunting season was my first time ever alone in the house. This year I am going to stay with some one.
UMMM did you say you have a one or two bedroom apt??

if you are still worried about being alone, get one of those poles that goes from the door handle to the floor - I'd put it on the front door.
about the cats,, I'd be calling the SPCA,,, I don't like to see loose animals cause you know they aren't eating regularly or well. and the SPCA could maybe get them adopted!

Hey!!! I'm glad you are still posting. ounds like you are doing great. I'd look at the cats as angels for company. Water only because you don't want them to become agressors. You can make it through this adventure. Have you checked out a quilt shop yet?

Glad to see you posting again! I agree with some of the other gals, call the local SPCA. Can't wait to hear about the quilt shops there...

If you put out food, you might be feeding critters other than the kitties. Skunks and racoons, for example, learn very quickly where they can score an easy meal.
